How to delete emails

Don’t you absolutely hate it when your mail Inbox is filled with a bunch of messages that you simply don’t care about? It’s safe to say that there is no point is leaving them in your inbox anymore so you might need to delete those emails. What are the easy steps to go about it?

How do you delete emails in Gmail

Gmail allows you to delete not just single messages, but multiple messages at the same time!

How to delete a single message:

  1. Open up Gmail.
  2. Select the message.
  3. On the right side of the same line, click the Delete button.

How to delete multiple emails in Gmail:

  1. Open up Gmail.
  2. Check the boxes to the left of the messages that you would like to delete.
  3. In the top menu, click the Delete button.

How to delete all emails in Gmail:

  1. Open up Gmail.
  2. In the message toolbar at the top, check the box on the left to select all conversations in the page. By default Gmail shows 50 conversations.
  3. A sentence "All 50 conversations on this page are selected." Followed by a clicable option "Select all X conversations in Inbox" which allow you to select all messages in the Inbox folder.

When you delete an email in Gmail, it remains in your trash for 30 days. Once the 30 days are up, the message is permanently deleted. If you want to remove a message from your inbox but do not want to get rid of it permanently, you can archive it.

How to delete Gmail emails from external apps

Gmail doesn’t always allow email deletion from external programs and to protect your data, it archives them instead. The way to avoid this is to turn on Auto-Expunge in your Gmail web client.

Here's how:

  1. Head to Gmail.com and open Settings > See all settings.
  2. Open the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
  3. Turn on Auto-Expunge in the “When I mark a message in IMAP as deleted” section.

This way you can mass delete Gmail messages even from external mail apps.

How do I delete emails in Outlook

Once an email is deleted in the Outlook account, it is kept in the Trash folder for 14 days by default. You can change how long the items are kept for, but the maximum is 30 days.

  2. Select which email you would like to delete by selecting the checkbox next to it.

You can also quickly delete emails with the help of shortcuts.

You can also modify any shortcut in case you find the default settings uncomfortable in Menu > Settings > General > Shortcuts.

As you can see, this is very simple, but please keep in mind that this does not delete the email permanently. Once you delete an email, it is then stored in the Trash folder.

How to permanently delete an email in eM Client:

  1. Head to the Trash folder.
  2. Select the email that you would like to permanently delete.
  3. Right-click and click Delete

  4. Or you can just use Shift + Delete shortcut when deleting the message in its original folder.
